Pure Mathematics in Norway

About the project

The project «Pure Mathematics in Norway» is a part of the Mathematics Programme of the Trond Mohn Foundation (Trond Mohn stiftelse, TMS) with the collaboration of the Tromsø Research Foundation (Tromsø forskningsstiftelse, TFS).

The main aim of the project is to strengthen research in pure mathematics in Norway, by contributing to national and international research collaboration, mobility of researchers and Ph.D. students, and training of Ph.D and master students.

The project involves the mathematics departments at the University of Bergen (UiB), the University of Oslo (UiO), the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and the University of Tromsø – The Arctic University of Norway (UiT). It started on May 1, 2018 and would originally run for four years. It has been extended for three more years, until 30 April 2025.

Further details about the project can be found in the project plan, see also guidelines.

The TMS/TFS foundation asks to acknowledge support if work has been completed using mobility or other means of the project. The suggested acknowledgment is as follows: “This work was partially supported by the project Pure Mathematics in Norway, funded by Trond Mohn Foundation and Tromsø Research Foundation”. Please make sure to also acknowledge the support when registering relevant publications in Cristin. Under „Project code“ enter the acronym „PureMath“, and in the pull-down menu „Choose source of funding“, select either Trond Mohn Foundation or Tromsø Research Foundation.
